New Accommodation Pricing 1st July 2014

Commonwealth Aged Care Reforms

On 1st July 2014 the Commonwealth Government’s Aged Care Reform processes will come into effect.

A significant component of the change is the introduction of a different system for the charging of Accommodation Costs.

West Wimmera Health Service provides residential aged care at the followingfacilities:

  • Iona Digby Harris Home
  • Trescowthick Hostel
  • Allan W Lockwood Special Care Hostel
  • Natimuk Nursing Home
  • Rainbow Nursing Home
  • Rainbow Bush Nursing Hospital Hostel
  • Kaniva Hostel
  • Archie Gray Nursing Home
  • Jeparit Nursing Home

Accommodation costs will be applicable only to those residents whose assets and income reach a threshold determined by Centrelink.

A resident may be asked to pay a Refundable Accommodation Deposit (fully refundable  lump sum amount) up to the maximum of $525,000 for their residence in any of the Service’s facilities.

This rate is applicable for residents entering a private or shared rooms which are available with private and shared ensuites, dependant on the facility.

If a resident would rather pay the accommodation costs in a Daily Accommodation Payment the maximum amount charged would be $95.36 per day and would be paid on a monthly basis.

Residents can choose to pay for their accommodation by a combination of refundable deposit and daily payment.

An example of a combination payment of 50% refundable deposit and 50% daily payment would be a $262,500 lump sum and a $47.68 daily payment.

These prices are maximums and are subject to assessment.

Accommodation costs are in addition to other costs associated with residential care including standard daily fees and care fees.
