Admission Procedure
WWHS Policy Statement:
- Entry to the Service shall follow the Entry Approval Process, Entry Criteria and Entry Process Protocols.
- All clients are admitted under the care of a West Wimmera Health Service credentialed medical officer.
- If appropriate, every effort shall be made to admit clients to the Hospital.
- Entry practices shall meet statutory and regulatory requirements.
Pre-Admission
The pre-admission clinic offers a service to surgical patients prior to their admission to hospital. The clinic aims to ensure hospital admission and surgery run smoothly. Your health status, before and after surgery is as important to us as it is to you.
The assessment allows early identification of special needs. (This may avoid problems or even cancellation on the day of surgery). We can advise you, in detail, about your surgery and hospital routine, we will also discuss and plan for your care after you leave hospital. You will have the opportunity to discuss your concerns in a relaxed, one to one situation.
A pre-admission assessment may reduce the time you need to stay in hospital.
The following may be organised for you as part of your pre-admission:
- An ECG (Cardiograph)
- Pathology tests
- X-rays
- An interview with your Anaesthetist.
- An assessment with the Physiotherapist.
- An interview with the Occupational Therapist.
Emergency Admission
All Emergency Admissions are completed in the Emergency Department or by ward staff.
