More About Us

West Wimmera Health Service provides high-quality hospital care, residential aged care, disability services and community services to more than 16,000 people in the West Wimmera region. We deliver services that are compassionate, responsive, accessible and accountable to individual and community needs and which are designed to achieve quality outcomes.  

We employ close to 600 staff across nine campuses at Nhill, Kaniva, Jeparit, Rainbow, Goroke, Natimuk, Murtoa, Minyip and Rupanyup. Our organisation has a total of 150 residential aged care beds, 54 acute beds and a broad range of community health services available from many of our campuses, keeping our community well at home.

Graduate Nurse Program for Registered Nurses 2022

West Wimmera Health Service offers a Graduate Nurse Program for Registered Nurses with one February intake each year. There are 4 available positions.  

Aims

The Graduate Nurse Program aims to facilitate the transition from student to confident Registered Nurse consolidating and integrating nursing knowledge into practice. Graduates are supported to fulfil the role of a Registered Nurse with the opportunity to enhance nursing careers, consolidate nursing skills and provide an opportunity to experience different clinical areas. Development of clinical judgement, critical thinking and reflective practice are facilitated throughout the program which consists of four rotations including Acute care, Aged care and two outer sites for a Rural experience. Included within the program is supernumerary orientation time and paid Study days. There are part time (minimum 0.6 eft) or full time options available.

Eligibility criteria

Registered nurses (Division 1) who have completed a Bachelor of Nursing or Applied Science (Nursing), who are registered with the Nurses Board of Victoria as a Division 1 Registered General Nurse and who have less than one year of experience in an acute general setting and are eligible to use Post Graduate Medical Council of Victoria (PMCV) formerly known as computer matching system.

Application process

Prospective graduates must apply using the Post Graduate Medical Council of Victoria (PMCV). We also require an application prior to the specified date of closure listed on PMCV.  

The application should include:

  • a letter of introduction
  • a brief CV
  • academic transcripts up to year 3 semester 1
  • a list of all clinical placements clinical assessments from year 2 & 3
  • a passport sized photo
  • contacts of two clinical referee's 
  • current National Police Check (certified copy)
  • current Working with Children Check (certified copy).

On completion

West Wimmera Health Service provides ongoing employment for its graduate nurses at the completion of the program. There is support available for staff wishing to pursue Post Graduate studies in a number of areas such as: Aged Care Perioperative Nursing Acute Nursing.
