More About Us

West Wimmera Health Service provides high-quality hospital care, residential aged care, disability services and community services to more than 16,000 people in the West Wimmera region. We deliver services that are compassionate, responsive, accessible and accountable to individual and community needs and which are designed to achieve quality outcomes.  

We employ close to 600 staff across nine campuses at Nhill, Kaniva, Jeparit, Rainbow, Goroke, Natimuk, Murtoa, Minyip and Rupanyup. Our organisation has a total of 150 residential aged care beds, 54 acute beds and a broad range of community health services available from many of our campuses, keeping our community well at home.

Maternal and Child Health Nurse, Full Time, Nhill

If you’re passionate about helping pregnant women, young children and parents in rural and remote communities…we want you!

We are seeking a passionate and qualified Maternal and Child Health Nurse in a full time, permanent capacity to cover the Hindmarsh Shire. Based at our Nhill campus you will regularly visits surrounding communities.

Joining our team, you will work closely with local GPs and Obstetricians and Yandilla Maternity Ward midwives in Horsham. Your role will incorporate delivering a Pregnancy Care Clinic and antenatal classes in addition to the usual Maternal and Child Health Services, Immunisations and parenting advice. This role also includes working with families involved in the Hindmarsh Day Stay program with Tweddle.

We are committed to providing a family focused, primary health care service to maximise the health and wellbeing of children aged 0-6 years. Consultations with families will promote and monitor health, growth, physical, emotional, social and cognitive development of pre-school children plus health screenings at key ages.

The Pregnancy Care Clinic provides locals with services in-between visits to their GPs/Obstetricians, filling the gaps and reducing the amount of travel to access vital services, making a real difference in the lives of growing families in our rural communities.

On receipt of birth notifications, you will make initial contact with families including undertaking domiciliary postnatal visits and arrange follow-up visits as necessary.

This is a very unique opportunity to work in this space in a health service with close access to assistance with infection control, immunisations and education. You will be supported not only by the nursing and allied health staff but also by the team of Managers and Executive Directors at West Wimmera Health Service.
