Ageing Well

West Wimmera Health Service is dedicated to supporting you through every stage of life.

 

Our focus on healthy ageing ensures that people in our communities, particularly those heading into retirement, have opportunities to stay well, active, and socially engaged as they age.

 

We offer a range of engaging programs designed to promote physical health, mental wellbeing, and social connection, predominantly targeted at those aged 65+ (or 55+ if you're of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent).

How to access

No referral is required to access these services, however eligibility criteria and initial assessments may be necessary.

Cost

Depending on the service, you may be required to pay a small fee to participate.

Aquatic Therapy 1.png

Aquatic Therapy

Engage in water-based exercises that are both gentle and effective. These weekly sessions require an initial land-based assessment with a physiotherapist to ensure suitability and safety.

Falls and Balance .png

Falls and balance

A mix of balance, strength, and coordination exercises designed to reduce the risk of falls. The sessions are held weekly and are supervised by Accredited Exercise Physiologists who help group members to progress their physical mobility.

Gentle Exercise.png

Gentle Exercise

These weekly sessions feature gentle stretches and exercises to music, tailored to keep you moving comfortably. 

Available in Nhill.

Healthy Legs Club

A mini health check while you relax with a cuppa and foot spa massage. Blood pressure monitoring and wound checks. Weekly sessions are open to all with no eligibility criteria.

Available in Goroke, Kaniva, Minyip, Murtoa and Nhill.

Healthy Lifestyle Group 1.png

Healthy Lifestyle Group

Fortnightly education, movement and cooking sessions designed to promote healthy lifestyles for people with chronic conditions.

Available in Murtoa.

No referral required.

Social Support Groups

Facilitated by our Social Support Coordinators, these group sessions provide those aged 65+ with the opportunity to get together with others and enjoy a range of activities, outings and bus trips.

Available at all sites.

Tai Chi 1.png

Guided weekly group sessions of gentle, modified  stretches and exercises set to music, perfect for maintaining flexibility and balance. Offering a relaxing and rejuvenating experience.
