About Health Promotion

So what is Health Promotion anyway? Usually, people think of contacting a health service when they are already unwell or concerned about their individual health. But what keeps people healthy in the first place?  That is where the Health Promotion team can help!

What is Health?

The World Health Organisation (WHO) defines health as:

A state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity

What is Health Promotion?

The WHO definition of health promotion is:

The process of enabling people to increase control over, and to improve, their health. It moves beyond a focus on individual behaviour towards a wide range of social and environmental interventions.

What do we do?

We work across a broad range of communities and issues, always focussing on the social determinants of health but also supporting and/or developing smaller scale projects.

The social determinants of health are the conditions in which we are born, we grow and age, and in which we live and work. The factors below impact on our health and wellbeing.
