Major Kitchen Upgrade to Transform Health, Safety and Functionality

A major kitchen redevelopment is now in progress in Nhill, addressing decades of wear and tear in a facility that has remained largely unchanged since its original construction in 1950 and a minor upgrade in 1978.

The kitchen has long struggled with structural deterioration, outdated and unreliable equipment, and a layout that no longer supports safe or efficient food handling. Thanks to grant support and local advocacy, the long-overdue transformation is now underway. The project will deliver a purpose-built, modern kitchen designed to meet today’s best-practice standards in safety, sustainability, and functionality.

“This upgrade marks a turning point for our Nhill facility,” said Joelle Browne, Manager of Hospitality & Environmental Services “It’s about more than replacing old appliances—it’s about creating a safe, healthy space for our staff and ensuring our continuing commitment to quality service for our community.”

Before work commenced, our hospitality and general services staff gathered one last time in the old kitchen to say their farewells—a quiet moment of reflection in a space that has supported decades of service, stories, and shared meals.

Construction is scheduled for completion by 5 December 2025, with minimal disruption to essential services during the renovation.

The project highlights West Wimmera Health Service’s strong commitment to maintaining high standards in community infrastructure, and updates will be provided as progress continues.
