West Wimmera Health Service is proud to introduce the new leadership team at Kaniva Hospital, bringing a strong mix of local connection, experience and passion for community care.
The new leaders share a deep commitment to delivering high-quality, person-centred care and strengthening services for the Kaniva community.
Director of Nursing, Chloe Mulraney said their journey into nursing was inspired by local encouragement. “A previous Kaniva Director of Nursing, Lesley Hawker, encouraged me to return to study and consider nursing, and Shelley Brown also inspired me while she was studying. They both gave me the confidence to give it a go,” she said.
While Nurse Unit Manager, Shelley Brown’s path into health care began in a more unexpected way. “It all started with three little boys, a trip to hospital for sutures, then a first aid course and years volunteering in emergency response. I never planned on leadership, but I’ve found I really enjoy it.”

Despite their varied pathways, both leaders share a clear vision of what success looks like at Kaniva Hospital. “A great day at work is a fully staffed facility providing quality care to our community,” Chloe said, while Shelley described it as “a calm, steady day where the team feels supported and residents and patients are well cared for.”
Looking ahead, the team is focused on building confidence and strengthening care. “We are passionate about the health of our community and want people to see Kaniva Hospital as their number one choice for healthcare,” Chloe explained. Shelley added their focus is on “building clinical confidence across the team and strengthening everyday practice.”
The leadership team hopes the community will feel the difference. “We want people to see us as part of their life—like a piece of their jigsaw—and know our doors are always open,” they said. “Our care is safe, consistent and delivered by staff who genuinely know and respect the people they look after.”
They also highlighted that leadership in health is always evolving. “People are often surprised that we are still learning every day. We’re constantly building our skills so we can better support our team and community.”
Outside of work, the leaders bring plenty of personality—from a well-known love of golf to caravan adventures exploring remote parts of Australia.
With a shared commitment to continuous improvement, connection and high-quality care, the new leadership team is ready to support Kaniva Hospital into its next chapter.
