West Wimmera Health Service is encouraging local families to explore residential aged care options closer to home, with places currently available at the newly expanded Rupanyup Nursing Home.

The available places provide an opportunity for older people across the region to remain close to family, friends and familiar surroundings while receiving the support they need, all in local, modern and welcoming environment.

West Wimmera Health Service Chief Executive Officer Ritchie Dodds said the availability of places was an exciting opportunity for older people and their families across the region.

"Moving into residential aged care is a significant decision, and many people want the reassurance of remaining close to family, friends and the communities they know and love," Mr Dodds said.

"The home offers modern accommodation, quality care and a strong sense of community, allowing residents to continue living locally while receiving the support they need."

The new extension adopts a familiar ‘home-style’ layout, welcoming residents and visitors into a central kitchen and dining space from a bright, double-height foyer. This design encourages connection, with residents able to take part in everyday activities such as cooking, spend time in shared living areas, and enjoy access to landscaped outdoor spaces.

Each bedroom has been designed to meet residents’ individual needs, featuring private ensuites, garden views, and individually adjustable heating, cooling, and lighting to enhance comfort and wellbeing.

A quiet lounge at the end of the corridor provides a low-stimulation environment for residents, along with a private outdoor area for visits with family and friends.

A current Rupanyup Nursing Home resident, Janice Graham, expressed her delight with the new wing, describing it as a welcoming and uplifting space.

“I really like my room. The big window is wonderful. I can look outside and see the plants, birds and people going by. It makes me feel connected and relaxed.”

Families considering residential aged care are encouraged to enquire about available places and arrange a visit to learn more about the home and its services.

"We encourage anyone considering residential aged care for themselves or a loved one to get in touch and arrange a visit to see what the home has to offer," Sreeja Saseendran, Director of Nursing Rupanyup said.

West Wimmera Health Service welcomes enquiries from potential residents, families and carers interested in learning more about residential aged care options in Rupanyup.
